The Board wishes to thank all those who attended the Annual Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association Membership Meeting. Many of our faithful members drove several hours to attend this meeting. The voices of our members are important to the life and growth of our Association.
Congratulations to all those who were nominated for Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association (PSSA) awards. These are snowmobilers who were recognized by clubs or other snowmobilers for their outstanding service to PSSA and the sport we all love. Those who were the winners in each category are listed elsewhere in the paper.
In addition to the PSSA Awards the membership also recognized Peggy and Henry Hartman for their many years of publishing the “Keystone Snowmobiler”. Their persistence and enthusiasm for snowmobile recreation was emulated by their dedication to produce a twelve month paper.
This publication kept members knowledgeable concerning news and events which potentially impact snowmobile recreation. Several articles were written by Henry to keep members informed about antique snowmobiles and safety while riding the trails. Their work is greatly appreciated.
Also the PSSA recognized the contributions of Past President Lowell Morton. A plaque and monetary donation to his church was presented to his wife Ila. It was Lowell and Ila who carried the Association for many years. Thank you for your service.
Representative Ryan Bizzarro (D) Erie provided a short video thanking the Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association and its members/clubs for all their work in providing well-groomed and maintained trails. He also noted the economic impact that recreational trails have for rural areas. It is his staff and contacts in Harrisburg who are researching the current laws and finding ways to help our cause.
Thank you to those who bought tickets for the raffle. The raffle is used to support PSSA programs and activities. The winners are listed in this paper.
A prior lucky winner brought to the attention of the Board the fact that not all winners needed another “toy”. A cash prize would be a better option. Therefore, the Executive Board decided that in future raffles there would be an option for a cash prize. Small games of chance laws prevented the Board from offering the cash prize for the current drawing. All prizes must be listed on the application and given as stated. Let us give credit to the person who discussed the possibility of this option with board members. The Board listened.
Beginning with this month the “Keystone Snowmobiler” will become part of the electronic age. The digital “paper” will have the same “look” as previous editions. The committee composed of: Terry Wood (Chair), Arline LaTourette, Rich Hayes along with Kathy Woolever and Maura Donley, spent many hours discussing options on how to proceed. It was finally decided that we make use of our website to produce the paper. This would reduce costs of print and postage and make the paper available to a wider audience. The Committee needs your help. Articles, pictures, etc., are encouraged. Send (e-mail) them to member@pasnow.org The committee is also researching possible advertisers. Please send any information you have to the above. We want to be relevant to our members. Finally, your ideas are needed. If you want to help with this project please contact Terry Wood (Chair). This is an on-going project and the Board will continue to evaluate it.
The Membership Meeting provided an opportunity to listen and discuss ideas and comments concerning snowmobile recreation. One comment that the Board hears from year to year is the lack of communication. The Association needs Regional Directors who communicate with the clubs in their area. Some areas do not have Regional Directors (Region 2, 4 East, 6, 7, and 10). We need people to take on the responsibilities of a Director in these areas. (I already received a nomination for Region 10). Each Director can have an Assistant to help with projects. Contact myself or any Board member if you can help.
Our brochure is in need of updated contact information, pictures etc. Shelley Buckles volunteered to manage this project. Please send updated club information to Shelley (shellyn33@gmail.com) and Kathy Woolever (member@pasnow.org).
The members also discussed ways clubs can help PSSA. We need more club members and their e-mail addresses. PSSA does not share or sell e-mail addresses. Another idea is to sponsor a sub sale or another event such as a PSSA snowmobile ride in your area. Any other ideas? Plan now.
Enjoy Summer! Think Snow!
