Greetings from the Glendale Lake SMC. The longest day of the year has passed and we’re on the countdown to sledding season. But let’s not rush the seasons, there’s lots to do and enjoy before Fall. The club continues to be busy over the summer months.
Trail work continues on multiple fronts. The Round the Lake Trails continues to be constructed with a lot of hard work by club members and support from DCNR. See the attached pictures. We planning for many new sections of the trail to be open for this riding season. Park staff has been of great assistance with this and through cooperation we’ve gotten past any hurdles. The club has over 160 hours of volunteer time in this project to date with much more to be done. Thanks to all for stepping up. With some luck and cooperation from some local land owners we also hope to have this trail connected to Patton’s Sportsman’s Club by winter. Other trail projects aren’t happening as quickly and remain in the planning stages. And finally we’re working on securing another free bridge for future trail use and exploring some trail work financing grant options.
Our Fall Picnic, Sled Giveaway and Powersports show is now planned for Saturday September 19th from noon to 5:00. Food is served at 1:00 pm and continues thru out the event. Thanks to the generosity of a club member we will again be giving away a free snowmobile to someone attending the picnic. Food fare include hamburgers, hot dogs, picnic food and everyone is invited to bring a covered dish. We are excited to announce that Alpha Powersports and Five Star Powersports are official picnic sponsors. They also offer club members substantial discounts as part of their support for the club. This is our annual big membership renewal event and membership drive. Pay your dues for 2021 and attend the picnic for free and if you’re a new member you get 2020 membership included for free. Notice a lot of free with this event. This event is held rain or shine in the huge Patton Sportsman’s club pavilion. A large selection of club imprinted items will also be available for purchase or ordering.
On a disappointing note, the Prince Gallitzin State Park Apple Cider Event in October has been cancelled. The Club has been regular participants for the last several years as part of the Friends of the Park Group. Last year our role expanded as we operated the Pontoon Shuttle that brought visitors from alternate parking areas. Donation from the service went to the club. Looking forward to 2021 for the events return.
Just a reminder to check us out on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/GLSMClub/ Or check out our Group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/864367483745347/ . Club membership applications and maps can be found on the Group page. Please join or renew, we need your membership to be able to continue to do all the great things we’re doing for the area and the sport.
Please join us for our next meeting on July 6th when we meet again in the pavilion outside the Patton’s Sportsmen’s Club, the pavilion is huge and allows for a lot of social distancing. The meeting begins at 7:30 but some club members and their families come early to enjoy the great food at the club. Please call your food order in ahead of time due to some of the current restrictions at the club.
Our Club is located in south central PA, about 1.5 hours east of the Laurel Highlands and about 45 minutes west of Black Moshanon State Park. We’re not far from Ebensburg and Altoona. If you’re from this area or ride in this area, we urge you to join our club. We meet the first Monday of the month, year round at 7:30 PM at the Patton Sportsman’s Club. We have a great time at our Club Meetings. We take care of business, enjoy some great food if you’re hungry, and swap some real good sled stories. Come join us. Stay safe till then.
