Happy New Year! Enjoy the riding season. Ride Safe. Obey all laws. Stay on the marked trail. Respect Landowners. For those of you who make New Year Resolutions here are a few pointers:
- Make a few that you can keep – few kept is better than many forgotten
- Keep them simple
It is important that all of us speak in a positive way when referring to snowmobile recreation. We need to attract new members to the sport and invite them to become members of the Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association (PSSA).
PSSA recently held two groomer training classes. Thank you to Terry Wood who organized the training in Marienville. The thirty plus group was treated to chili and drinks provided by his wife. Charles Walter brought together about 16 people for the training in the Northeast. This group had pizza provided by Charles. Comments concerning the training were positive. Potential groomer drivers now need to ride with a “seasoned” driver to become familiar with the mechanics of the groomer. Groomers are very costly and no one should be driving one unless they have been trained. Think of the groomer as your very pricey car. Would you want someone who does not know your car operations to drive it? Of course not.
There is need for more positive contact with our elected officials. Invite them to take a ride with your club members. Much can be gained by reaching out to them. Remember they are the ones who vote on laws or give their blessing to open trails on township property. (Call/e – mail your representatives. Express your support/ concerns.
OTHER INFORMATION
Help – Potter County Snowmobile Clubs need your help. Many of their members do not live in the area so much of the trail maintenance is done by the few. Contact the club President if you can help. Information is on our web-site (www.pasnow.org) under the Tab – Clubs/Organizations or check for club information on the back pages of the Keystone Snowmobiler.
Clubs – PSSA is in need of your updated information – Please send your club President’s name, address, phone number, email and Facebook information to Kathy Woolever.
Lake Erie Speedway – is planning to have a multiple motorized winter fest in January. This type of activity has proved very popular for a variety of recreation groups. This could be another source of members and a fund-raising opportunity for PSSA. It is in the research stages. If you have any experience with these races please contact a board member.
Calendars – The American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) calendars have arrived. They are available for $20 each. You have many chances to win. PSSA benefits from the sale of these calendars. Send your check with your return information to the Palmyra Office and the calendars will be sent to you. (Calendars are available throughout the year.)
New Year– This is a good time to make an extra donation to PSSA. PSSA is in need of several snow cameras. These cameras alert snowmobilers to snow conditions in the area. They can also be used for safety and security purposes. Good quality cameras range in price from $400 – $750. Any size donation would be helpful. Thank you.
Get out and enjoy the beauty of Pennsylvania!
MAY YOU HAVE A BLESSED AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Think Snow!
